What's Different
What're the differences among CarbonTracker for North America, Europe and China?
CarbonTracker for North America, Europe and for China are made separately, but collaborating, teams of researchers in the United States, Europe and China. CarbonTracker for North America and Europe were first released in 2007 and 2009, respectively. CarbonTracker Europe was developed from the CT2007B release of CarbonTracker North America and hence should be compared to this older version. CarbonTracker North America is updated each year in October, while CarbonTracker Europe is not on a fixed release schedule.

CarbonTracker China was developed from CarbonTracker Europe (CTDAS) and is not on a fixed release schedule.
  • CT China uses a large set of Asia CO2 mole fraction observations not available in CT North America and CT Europe.
  • CT China uses a TM5 two-way nested transport grid over China instead of over North America (CT NA) and over Europe (CTE).
  • CT China uses a different seasonality of China fossil fuel emissions.

How do flux estimates from CarbonTracker China compare with other releases?

The tables below summarize the estimated surface fluxes for combined natural sources derived from the current CarbonTracker China release (CTEA2019) and the latest CT release for North American (CT2019B) and Europe CTE (2007). The uncertainty in the estimates is the one standard deviation from the filter estimate. Units are PgC/yr (1015 g C/year, or billion metric ton C/year, or 3.7 billion metric ton CO2/year).
